Medieval Warrington is a thematic study of the roots of the medieval town, manor and parish of Warrington, which grew up with its centre on the north bank of the River Mersey. The early nucleus developed rapidly in the thirteenth and early fourteenth centuries, stimulated by an important bridge and a thriving market, until the limits of its medieval growth were reached. The study ends with the Dissolution, when the last vestiges of the Middle Ages were overthrown. The appendix includes a section on local place names and their meanings. Incorporates material from an earlier, unpublished booklet on Anglo-Saxon Warrington, printed in 2002.
